Chronoswiss unveils the Open Gear ReSec Paraiba

Limited to just 50 pieces worldwide – the new Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba watch grants the wearer a glimpse into its beating heart via a mesmerising colour-shifting hand-guilloched dial mirroring the shades of the Paraiba tourmaline.

Lucerne-based manufacturer, Chronoswiss launches the Open Gear ReSec Paraiba with the same regulator set-up that we have all come to know and love. The indications on the dial, which Chronoswiss calls “flying regulator”, appear to float above the surface, but what’s more, their backdrop magically shifts in colour depending on the way light hits the dial. The execution of this dial calls upon the experience of a dedicated team of artisans who have tested a myriad of lacquers, finishes, patterns, materials, treatment and colouring agents. The new limited edition Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba watch is limited to just 50-pieces worldwide and is powered by the automatic winding Chronoswiss calibre C. 301. A section of its arrangement is put on show on the watch’s dial side for admiring in conjunction with the deep turquoise, jungle green and deep purple shades of the dial.

The colour-shifting handmade guilloche dial of the Open Gear ReSec Paraiba

It was a unique type of nano-decorative chemical vapour deposition that opened up a realm of possibilities for experts at Chronoswiss. A short-wave guilloche pattern executed by the steady hand of an artisan at Chronoswiss’ Lucerne ateliers achieved a unique light reflection and a mesmerizing effect. Watch expert, Panzziera of Chronoswiss explains;

When the prototype finally came back from the lab, I instantly thought of the Paraiba tourmaline, one of the world’s rarest gemstones unique to the north-eastern Brazilian state,”

By simply turning the watch under the light, the dial can mimic the captivating shades of the Paraiba tourmaline, transitioning from a tropical lagoon turquoise to a rich jungle green, a deep petrol blue and finally a magnificent blue-violet hue. By combining the handmade guilloche effects on the dial with the innovative use of CVD – the new Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba is both rich in texture and full of depth and texture.

The new limited edition Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec watch is powered by the self-winding calibre C. 301 – a remarkably refined engine based on the tried and tested ETA 2895 movement, which features a 120-degree retrograde second function and exposes the three wheels that drive the hour hand through its dial side. Chronoswiss pioneered the complication in 1988 and liken the exposure of the working mechanics within the movement to the transparent display of the famous Ferrari motors. The dial of the new Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba watch is elaborately designed and comprises a staggering total of 42 individual construction parts positioned on two levels. The bottom layer features a hand-guilloched turquoise CVD coating, while the upper black galvanised level of the dial features screwed-on skeletonised train wheel bridges. The “floating” indexes are treated with a layer of Super-LumiNova to assist with readability when caught in low-light conditions. In the same fashion, the “Trigono”-shaped hands, which are lacquered and polished, also feature a luminous inlay.

Matching the meticulous detail of the new Chronoswiss Open Gear’s dial is the 17-piece case construction, crafted from stainless steel and executed with satin finishes and a polished bezel. The broad 44mm model is knurled and curved at the edges and sealed with a sapphire crystal glass top. This remarkably hard material is integrated with a double coating of anti-reflective technology to enable a clear view into the dial at any point throughout the day. The glass is also featured on the reverse of the case. This sapphire-backed feature, alongside the open-heart feature on the front of the dial, puts the performance of the Chronoswiss calibre C. 301 on show.  The onion-shaped crown of the new Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Paraiba watch is a characteristic shared with other models from the Open Gear watch collection – you can check these out on the Jura Watches website here.

The case of the new Open Gear Paraiba watch also incorporates the company’s patented Autobloc system to work in conjunction with the movement’s Incabloc shock protection system. The case also promises a water-resistant capability of 100 meters and comes complete on a black hornback crocodile leather strap with hand-sewn finishes and a robust stainless steel. fastening
